I tried to put these songs on a little playable junket thingy, but I couldn't find any website that had all of the tracks I wanted to include without having to first upload them from my iTunes (and since I'm a huge Spotify junkie, I don't have most of these tracks in my iTunes library anyway).

But I hope you enjoy my latest music recommendations nonetheless; I've been pretty obsessed with these tracks for the past few days, and I hope you'll be jamming nonstop to them as well after taking a listen! Haha.

(I love how my posts go from girly Zooey Deschanel-inspired posts to this lol.)

Goodnight my loves! x

Get The Look: Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?

Why Do You Let Me Stay Here? - She & Him
(She & Him: Volume One)

This was the first She & Him song I ever heard, and ever since I first watched this video, I instantly fell in love with the cartoonish, dreamlike atmosphere created in the dark yet childlike video. Above all though, I became enamored with Zooey's whimsical costumes - from her short, cream lacey frock dress to her conservative cowgirl outfit.  The video seems like a short trip into a small child's daydreams or fantastical playground adventures. It's flirty, it's humorous, it's enchanting, and I absolutely love it.

Here are some of my suggestions for stealing Zooey's style in this video:

  1. Baby doll dresses in crisp whites, warm creams, blush pinks, or other muted hues
  2. Pastel colored patent leather oxfords, ballerina flats, or block-heeled mary jane heels
  3. Sweet, feminine headbands featuring oversized bows or flowers and delicate lace, sequined, or beaded peter pan collars
  4. Lashes layered and curled in thick black coats of mascara for a doe-eyed look and subtle, warm tones of nude and pink to add a youthful twist on the cheeks and lips
  5. Mint/pastel colored shoulder bags or chic cream satchel bags fit for a girl on the go

  2. Odeon natural block heel court shoes with mary jane strap Online ($31) / Pointed Ballerinas With Bow ($30) / Patent Leather Blucher ($50)

Hiatus

Despite the fact that my blog has been on hiatus for some time now, I have re-vamped the page layout and am finally getting it to look as I've always wanted it to look: feminine, polished and simple.

Because of the new header, I've decided I'd like to share some of my favorite Gil Elvgren pieces with you. Despite the exposed lingerie and stocking tops, I feel that Elvgren was truly able to capture the evolving fun, flirty essence of womankind from the late 1930s to the early '70s. Not only do these paintings exude classic images of feminine vivacity, but also convey an ever-growing sense of female empowerment during these times.

I've always had an affinity for pin-up fashions, so when I'm trying to convey a pin-up aura in my everyday outfits, I'll often pair printed or bold-colored high waisted shorts (Zara is my personal favorite place to purchase these, although UO often also has good options) with complimentary-colored tank tops or bustier/corseted tops (which can be found in stores such as Macy's in the Material Girl section, Urban Outfitters, and American Apparel). I also recently purchased a bright coral-colored scalloped romper from Urban Outfitters that, when paired with a bold pair of heels (I paired with Missioni print inspired pumps), oozes pin-up. If you're looking for a pin-up inspired dress, try a dress with a - preferably sweetheart - corseted top, cinched at the waist, with a mid-thigh length flowy skirt.

Although I also own and once loved to sport around the lingerie-esque tights, my style has become a bit more conservative as of late (it seems the older I get, the more I enjoy dressing like an American Girl doll), but if you truly want a pin-up look, throw a pair of those on with any of your pretty pin-up outfits an you're good to go!

Come to think of it, this also makes for a pretty adorable halloween costume. Hmmm...
